There are usually three commonly used methods for testing the basic data, iron loss, and B-H curve of silicon steel sheets, namely single sheet silicon steel testing, Epstein square circle testing, and ring sample testing.

Single piece silicon steel testing consists of a circuit formed by a single piece of silicon steel and a yoke. It is the simplest and most convenient to implement, and is usually used for spot checks in production lines.

The Epstein Square Circle is often made by stacking standard sized silicon steel strips to form a rectangular loop. It is considered as the standard method for testing the B-H curve and iron loss of silicon steel sheets.

Ring sample testing is a method of cutting silicon steel sheets into a certain shape and stacking them in a circular manner to form a magnetic circuit. A certain number of coils are wound around the circular silicon steel sheets, and the surrounding testing method can obtain higher precision B-H curves and iron consumption data of the silicon steel sheets. Firstly, the ring sample is a completely enclosed magnetic circuit, which is extremely similar to the stator core of a motor. Secondly, under high-frequency conditions, skin effect and proximity effect also exist in silicon steel sheets, and ring samples can reflect to some extent the influence of these effects on BH curve and iron consumption. Finally, the surrounding can also reflect the influence of stress on steel plate iron loss and BH curve, but the production of ring samples is relatively complex and difficult to operate.
